The Royal Wootton Bassett and Cricklade Area Board met on Wednesday 10 June 2026 to discuss funding applications for local projects, hear updates from community partners, and consider recommendations from the Local Highway and Footway Improvement Group. Key discussions included the allocation of community grants, an introduction to the Wiltshire Community Lottery, and potential planning-related topics concerning water conditions and rights of way.

Funding Applications

The board was scheduled to consider several applications for funding across different grant streams. In the Community Area Grants category, applications included a £5,000 request from Purton Cricket Club for their pavilion project, £4,000 for Cricklade United Church's roof domes, £5,000 for Cricklade Town Hall's annexe toilet upgrade, £5,000 for Tockenham Village Hall survey works, £3,000 for Broad Hinton Village Hall's projector and sound equipment, and £5,000 for Cricklade Bowls Club's front entrance redevelopment.

For Older and Vulnerable Adult Grants, a £200 request was made by Vale View Gardens Charitable Trust for a free family fun day.

In the Young People Grants category, Wessex Archaeology Ltd requested £1,487 for their Festival of Archaeology 2026 Archaeology in Nature event, and Purton Tennis Club sought £500 for their youth cardio tennis programme.

The board was also to note any funding awards made under the Delegated Funding Process between meetings. Cricklade Town Council had previously been awarded £995 towards a cycle path service station.

Information Items and Community Spotlight

Several information items were scheduled for noting, including neighbourhood crime figures from the Police Team, updates from the Wiltshire Council Consultation Portal, and specific Wiltshire Council initiatives such as Connect to Work, the Wiltshire Faith Communities Network, and the ongoing Community Governance Review.

The Community Spotlight segment was an opportunity to highlight positive outcomes from previous grant awards and share good news stories from partners. Written updates were expected from the Neighbourhood Police Team, Wiltshire and Swindon Road Safety Partnership, Wiltshire Police Violence Against Women and Girls initiative, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council, Cricklade Town Council, Wessex Community Action, Community First, and Alcoholics Anonymous. Verbal updates were also anticipated from Wiltshire Police, town and parish councils, and other community organisations.

An introduction to the new Wiltshire Community Lottery was also on the agenda.

Local Highway and Footway Improvement Group (LHFIG) Recommendations

The board was to consider recommendations arising from the Local Highway and Footway Improvement Group (LHFIG) meeting held on 21 May 2026. These included proposals for:

• Royal Wootton Bassett High Street Waiting Restrictions: An allocation of £6,500 was recommended, with a third-party contribution of £1,625 (TBC). This covers waiting restrictions including Blackthorn Close, Bath Road, and Thames Lane in Cricklade.
• Pavenhill, Purton: A recommendation to allocate £1,000 for two rebound bollards, with a third-party contribution of £250 (TBC).
• Preston Lane, Lyneham: An allocation of £10,000 was recommended for a 20mph zone, with a third-party contribution of £2,500 (TBC).
• Nore Marsh Road, Royal Wootton Bassett: An allocation of £2,500 was recommended for a zebra crossing street lighting assessment, with a third-party contribution of £1,250 (TBC).
• Cloatley Crescent, Royal Wootton Bassett: An allocation of £350 was recommended for a street nameplate, with a full third-party contribution of £350.
• Royal Wootton Bassett and Cricklade Area: An allocation of £5,000 was recommended for ad-hoc road markings for 2026/27, with no third-party contribution.

Other Business

The board was scheduled to receive an update from the Community Care Group and updates from Area Board members and the Strategic Engagement and Partnerships Manager on the Local Action Plan under the Our Community Matters item. An appointment of a lead member to the Local Highway and Footway Improvement Group was also to be made.

Under Community Discussion and Planning, local councillors and members of the public were invited to suggest topics for future meetings. The board also expressed interest in discussing planning-related matters, specifically water conditions relating to planning applications and rights of way across new housing developments, if time permitted.
