The Chambers Institution Trust met on Tuesday 14 April 2026 to discuss project updates and the formation of the 'Friends of the Chambers Institution'. The meeting also moved into a private session to discuss the Phase 2 feasibility study, business plan, and a memorandum of understanding between the Trust and the Friends group, with plans for public consultation to follow.
Project Update
Councillor Robin Tatler, Chair of the Chambers Institution Trust, provided a brief update on the current project. She confirmed that the decamp process is proceeding as planned and that communications have been issued to the media. An updated report will be provided following the project board meeting.
Friends of the Chambers Institution Update
Gareth Smith, the new Chair of the 'Friends of the Chambers Institution', reported on recent activities. He, along with trustees Marshall Douglas and David Robertson, have held preliminary board meetings. Key actions agreed upon include setting up a bank account and reviewing a draft memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Chambers Institution Trust. The MOU is nearing finalisation and will serve as an initial framework for cooperation, particularly concerning Phase 1 fundraising. Future steps involve gathering membership and expanding the board. The 'Friends' group also anticipates having a presence at the forthcoming public consultation.
Phase 2 Feasibility Study, Business Plan, and Memorandum of Understanding
The meeting moved into a private session to discuss the Phase 2 feasibility study, business plan, and a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Chambers Institution Trust and the 'Friends of the Chambers Institution'. These discussions are intended to pave the way for launching the public consultation stage for the next phase of the project. Public consultation events are planned for the afternoon and evening of May 13th and throughout May 16th at the Borough Hall.
