Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Harrow and are not the council. About us
The Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education (SACRE) of Harrow Council was scheduled to discuss national and local updates concerning Religious Education (RE), as well as review the council's agreed syllabus. The meeting also included a review of the SACRE Development Plan for 2025-2026.
National Updates
The council was scheduled to receive updates on the National Curriculum concerning Religious Education. Additionally, information was to be shared from the NASACRE Conference held in May 2026. The National Association of Standing Advisory Councils for Religious Education (NASACRE) is the national body representing SACREs across England and Wales, aiming to promote high standards in RE.
Local Updates
Updates were planned regarding the Jewish Living Exhibition, an initiative likely aimed at promoting understanding of Jewish culture and faith within the community. The RE Subject Leaders Network Group was also scheduled to provide an update, indicating a forum for educators to discuss and share best practices in teaching RE.
Agreed Syllabus Review
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to reviewing the council's Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. This review was to consider Ofsted expectations and recent developments in the subject. The agenda also indicated a Consideration/comparison with Widening Horizons,
suggesting an evaluation of the current syllabus against this particular educational framework or resource. The Agreed Syllabus is a legal document that sets out the framework for RE teaching in local authority maintained schools.
SACRE Development Plan
The SACRE Development Plan for 2025-2026 was scheduled for discussion, with a focus on self-evaluations. This plan outlines the SACRE's objectives and activities for the academic year, and the self-evaluation would likely assess progress against these goals.
The meeting was scheduled to take place at Salvatorian College, High Road, Harrow HA3 5DY, commencing at 4.30 pm. Ms Vivian Wright was listed as the Clerk to SACRE, and Ms Lisa Kassapian as the Acting Adviser to SACRE. The venue for the meeting was Harrow Council Hub, Forward Drive, Harrow, HA3 8LU.
