The Southern Planning Committee of Shropshire Council met on Tuesday 30 June 2026 to consider several planning applications. The meeting's agenda included discussions on proposed residential developments in Ford and Benthall, as well as variations to existing permissions for an anaerobic digestion plant and a biodigester station.
Proposed Residential Development Land East of Ford, Shrewsbury
A significant portion of the meeting was scheduled to be dedicated to the proposed erection of 93 dwellings with associated infrastructure and landscaping at Land East of Ford, Shrewsbury1. The report pack indicated that this application was for a significant number of affordable homes. Concerns were scheduled to be raised regarding the potential for overdevelopment, the impact on highway safety due to proposed alterations to traffic calming measures and the access point, and the loss of historic ridge and furrow and high-quality habitats. The need for the proposed number of affordable homes in the Ford area was also a point scheduled for discussion.
Swancote Energy Ltd Anaerobic Digestion Plant at Swancote Farm, Bridgnorth
The committee was scheduled to consider an application for the variation of conditions attached to a previous permission for an anaerobic digestion plant at Swancote Farm, Swancote, Bridgnorth2. Specifically, the variations related to Condition 3 (revised access proposals), Condition 9 (feedstock type), and Condition 10A (feedstock allowance). The report pack noted that energy crops would no longer be used in the plant, and there were no objections from statutory consultees.
Proposed Residential Development Land Off Benthall Lane and Bridge Bank, Benthall
An outline application for the development of two or three dwellings at Land Off Benthall Lane and Bridge Bank, Benthall, was scheduled for discussion. The report pack indicated that all matters were reserved for this application. Concerns were scheduled to be raised regarding highway safety, with officers advising that this would be considered as part of any reserved matters application.
Proposed Residential Development Land East of Shaw Lane, Albrighton
The committee was scheduled to review an outline application for the development of two or three dwellings at Land East of Shaw Lane, Albrighton. The report pack highlighted that members were expected to welcome the proposed cycle and footway link through the site and the amount of affordable dwellings. However, concerns were scheduled to be expressed regarding the provision of green space and play areas, with a request for consideration to be given to an area for older children, potentially with a youth shelter. Councillor Nigel Lumby, the local ward member, was scheduled to make a statement before withdrawing from the debate and vote.
Marches Biogas Limited Biodigester Station, Coder Road, Ludlow
An application for the variation of Condition No. 2 attached to a previous permission for a biodigester station at Marches Biogas Limited, Coder Road, Ludlow, was scheduled for consideration. The report pack indicated that the proposed amendments were considered to be minor and acceptable.
Schedule of Appeals and Appeal Decisions
The committee was scheduled to note the Schedule of Appeals and Appeal Decisions for the southern area as at 26 May 2026.
