Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on City of London and are not the council. About us
The Community & Children's Services Committee is scheduled to convene on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, with a public session commencing at 1:45 pm. The agenda includes the election of a Chair and Deputy Chair, alongside the appointment of members to various sub-committees and portfolios. A significant portion of the meeting is dedicated to discussing major works and renewal programmes for the Golden Lane Estate, as well as fire safety and investment works at Great Arthur House.
Appointments to Sub-Committees and Portfolios
A key item on the agenda involves the appointment of members to various sub-committees and portfolios for the upcoming civic year. This includes the Housing Management and Almshouses Sub-Committee, the Safeguarding and Special Educational Needs Sub-Committee, and the Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Sub-Committee. Members will also be asked to appoint representatives to the Integrated Care Sub-Committee (of the City and Hackney Place-based Partnership), the Education Board, the Projects and Procurement Sub-Committee, the Equity, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Sub-Committee, the Crime and Disorder Scrutiny Sub-Committee, and the Health and Wellbeing Board. Additionally, Lead Members will be appointed to specific portfolios, including Adult and Children Safeguarding, Young People, and Carers' and Special Educational Needs Champion. The report pack details the proposed composition and terms of reference for these groups, aiming to enhance the committee's oversight and the department's delivery of outcomes.
Golden Lane Estate Major Works
The meeting is scheduled to receive updates on the Golden Lane Estate Major Works Renewal Programme. This includes discussions on Phase 1, focusing on Crescent House, and Phase 2, which covers all blocks on the estate excluding Crescent House and Great Arthur House. Furthermore, there will be a report concerning Great Arthur House Fire Safety and Investment Works. These discussions are expected to outline the progress and plans for significant renewal and safety initiatives within the City of London Corporation's housing stock.
Additional Posts for Major Works Team
A report is scheduled for discussion regarding Additional Posts for the Major Works Team (HRA) within the Directorate of Community and Children's Services (DCCS). This item, reported by the Director of Housing, will likely address the staffing needs to support the major works programmes.
Order of the Court of Common Council
The committee will receive the Order of the Court of Common Council dated 23 April 2026 for information. This order outlines the constitution, quorum, and membership of the Community and Children's Services Committee for the 2026/27 civic year, as well as its terms of reference.
