The Education and Young People Overview & Scrutiny Committee of Oxfordshire Council was scheduled to meet on Tuesday 12 May 2026. The agenda for the meeting included the election of a Chair and Deputy Chair for the upcoming council year, as well as a review of the committee's responsibilities and procedures.
Election of Chair and Deputy Chair
The committee was scheduled to elect a Chair and Deputy Chair for the 2026/27 council year.
Declarations of Interest
Members of the committee were reminded of their general duty to declare any disclosable pecuniary interests, other registrable interests, and non-registrable interests that may arise during the meeting. The report pack outlined the definitions of these interests and the procedures for declaring them, including the requirement to withdraw from discussions and voting if a disclosable pecuniary interest is declared.
The committee's remit includes scrutinising services and initiatives related to children, young people, education, and family support. This encompasses home to school transport, special educational needs and disability (SEND), children's social care, safeguarding, public health for children and young people, care leavers, and services for young carers. The committee also plays a role in challenging the Cabinet, examining performance, influencing policy development, and representing the community.
