The Standards Sub-Committee of Shropshire Council was scheduled to consider two exempt reports relating to code of conduct complaints. The meeting agenda also included standard procedural items such as the election of a chairman, apologies for absence, and the declaration of interests.
Code of Conduct Complaints
The primary focus of the meeting was scheduled to be the consideration of two separate exempt reports concerning code of conduct complaints. These reports, prepared by the Monitoring Officer, were to be discussed in private session, with the press and public excluded in accordance with Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972. The agenda indicated that these reports would detail the nature of the complaints and provide information for the committee to consider.
The report pack indicates that the committee was to consider an exempt report relating to a Code of Conduct complaint, detailed on pages 3 to 26 of the public reports pack. A second exempt report concerning another Code of Conduct complaint was also scheduled for discussion, detailed on pages 27 to 162 of the public reports pack.
Procedural Matters
Before delving into the complaints, the committee was scheduled to undertake several procedural steps. This included the election of a Chairman for the duration of the meeting. Members were also reminded of their obligation to declare any disclosable pecuniary interests and other registrable or non-registrable interests in accordance with the Council's Members' Code of Conduct. The minutes of the previous meeting, held on 9 April 2026, were also scheduled for approval as a true record.
The agenda also included a resolution to exclude the press and public from the meeting during the consideration of the code of conduct complaints, citing provisions within the Local Government Act 1972 and the Council's Access to Information Rules. This exclusion is standard practice when sensitive personal information or ongoing investigations are being discussed.
