The Barnet Health and Wellbeing Board met on Thursday 14 July 2022 to discuss a range of public health initiatives and strategic plans. Key decisions included the approval of the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Programme and Action Plan, and the noting of updates on the SEND Inspection and Action Plan, the Fit and Active Barnet Strategy, and the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment consultation.
The Board heard updates on the Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy's Priority 3, focusing on coordinated and holistic care, which included discussions on digital transformation, support for carers, and the delivery of population health integrated care. Significant progress was noted in integrating data for patient care through the London Care Record and HealtheIntent platforms, alongside initiatives to address digital exclusion. The refreshed all-ages carers strategy and the expansion of the Frailty MDT model were also highlighted.
Further discussions covered the Living with COVID-19 and other communicable diseases, with updates on COVID-19 infection rates, Monkeypox, and Polio. The North Central London Integrated Care System (ICS) and the future role of the Health and Wellbeing Board within this new structure were also discussed, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the system works effectively for Barnet residents. An update on the Mental Health and Community Services Review highlighted ongoing work to address waiting times and improve patient experience, particularly for children and young people.
The Board reviewed the positive outcomes of the SEND Local Area Inspection, noting the strengths and areas for improvement, and considered the implications of the SEND Green Paper. The Fit and Active Barnet Strategy's Year 1 delivery was presented, showcasing efforts to increase physical activity levels across the borough, with a particular focus on targeted interventions for different demographic groups. The draft Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment was presented, noting that while there are no identified gaps in Necessary Services,
there is a desire to see improved coverage and uptake of Advanced, Enhanced, and Locally Commissioned Services. Finally, an annual update on the Suicide Prevention Strategy was presented, highlighting the partnership's work in raising awareness, providing interventions, and supporting those bereaved by suicide, with a particular focus on preventative actions for children and young people.
