The Flood Liaison Group meeting on 18 June 2024 reviewed progress on flood alleviation work at Datchet, Old Windsor, and W Windsor. The meeting was also given an update on the Council's response to recent flood events, and information about the latest guidance on managing flood risk.

Flood alleviation schemes

The meeting received an update on progress on the Datchet, Old Windsor, and W Windsor flood alleviation schemes, all of which are in development.

Councillors noted that good progress was being made and that they were pleased with the level of engagement with residents. The meeting also discussed the need for the schemes to be as environmentally sensitive as possible.

We need to ensure that we are not just building concrete walls. We need to be using natural flood management techniques wherever possible.

Response to recent flood events

The meeting received an update on the Council's response to recent flood events.

Councillors expressed their sympathy for those affected by the floods and asked officers to ensure that the Council was doing everything it could to support residents and businesses who were affected.

Managing flood risk

The meeting received an update on the latest guidance on managing flood risk. The meeting also discussed the need to raise awareness of flood risk among residents and businesses.

We need to do more to educate people about flood risk. Many people are simply not aware of the risks or what they can do to protect themselves.

The meeting discussed ways in which the Council could use its website and social media channels to communicate better with residents about flood risk.
