The Local Spending Board for Oatlands & Burwood Park, Weybridge Riverside & Weybridge St George's Hill of Elmbridge Council met to discuss and approve various applications for the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding. The board approved funding for several local projects, including school renovations, church upgrades, road safety improvements, and community information boards.

Manby Lodge Infant School

Manby Lodge Infant School requested £22,000 for the creation of an extra room. Headteacher Miriam Morris explained that the school had previously been awarded £45,000 in 2022, but due to delays and rising costs, additional funding was needed. The board approved the request, noting the school's high score of 17.1 out of 25 and the importance of the project for the school's infrastructure and wraparound care provision.

Oatlands School

Oatlands School sought £10,000 for washroom renovations in their Oscar block, which houses reception classrooms and the Oscar Club. The board approved the funding, recognising the necessity of the renovations and the school's efforts to secure additional funding from the PTA and the Oscar Club. The project scored 17 out of 25.

St. James Church

St. James Church applied for £15,000 to upgrade their plant room and install a new boiler. Alan Knowles, the church's treasurer, highlighted the church's extensive community use and the need for a reliable heating system. The board approved the funding, despite the total project cost being £38,000, with the church covering the remaining amount through its own funds. The project scored 15 out of 25.

Road Safety Engineering

Surrey County Council requested £8,000 for high friction surfacing at the Queens Road Junction with St. George's Avenue. The board approved the funding, recognising the importance of improving road safety in a high-traffic area. The project is part of Surrey's Vision Zero strategy to reduce collisions and casualties.

Broadwater Conservation Society

The Broadwater Conservation Society requested £4,191 for the installation of information boards along the Broadwater path. Despite a low score of 8.8 out of 25, the board approved the funding, acknowledging the community value of the project and the society's volunteer-led efforts to maintain and enhance the local environment.
