Social Care Reforms - Update
The Assistant Director of Adult Services informed the committee that there were no new updates for Darlington since the previous meeting. However, it was noted that Durham County Council had received their inspection date from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and both Northumberland County Council and Gateshead Council had been contacted by the CQC for their self-assessment, with inspections anticipated in September/October 2024.
Council Plan 2024-27 - Draft for Consultation
The Chief Officers Executive submitted a report introducing the draft Council Plan 2024-27 to the committee and sought comments from members. The plan outlines long-term ambitions for Darlington and sets priorities for the next three years. The public consultation on the draft plan is open from 6 March 2024 to 25 April 2024, seeking views from residents, businesses, charities, and key stakeholders. The finalised plan is expected to be submitted to the Cabinet and Council in May for approval and adoption.
Members discussed the underpinning plans and strategies, performance measures, and the need for more work on analysing the provider market and high-cost care packages. They also emphasised the importance of improving the lives of the elderly and encouraging healthier lifestyles.
Adult Social Care During the COVID Pandemic Task and Finish Review - Final Report
The Assistant Director of Adult Services presented the final report of the Review of Adult Social Care during the COVID Pandemic Task and Finish Group, established on 20 April 2021. Councillor Holroyd provided a presentation summarising the group's findings and recommendations. The review aimed to understand how adult social care services coped during the pandemic, the experiences of service users and their families, and to identify necessary changes for future disease outbreaks.
Work Programme 2023/24
The Assistant Director of Law and Governance submitted a report requesting members to consider the work programme items for 2023/24 and any additional areas for inclusion. The committee noted the content of the Work Programme 2024-2025.
