The Staffing Committee of Waltham Forest Council met on Wednesday 19 June 2024 and appointed a new Strategic Director of Neighbourhoods and Environment. The meeting was held in private to discuss the appointment.

Appointment of Strategic Director of Neighbourhoods and Environment

The Committee interviewed candidates for the significant role of Strategic Director of Neighbourhoods and Environment. This position is crucial for providing leadership, strategic direction, and operational management across a range of services including community safety, enforcement, neighbourhood management, regulatory services, highways, and the public realm. The role is also intended to support the Council's 15 Minute Neighbourhood agenda. Following the interview process, the Committee agreed to offer the post to Debbie Porter, subject to the completion of necessary appointment checks. This decision was made in accordance with the Officer Employment Procedure Rules, which require consultation with Cabinet members for chief officer appointments.
