Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Haringey and are not the council. About us
The Alexandra Palace and Park Consultative Committee was scheduled to discuss proposals for a wetland project, the installation of solar panels on the AP Cricket Club building, and receive a general update on activities within the park and palace. The meeting's agenda also included consultation on the Rewilding London
initiative.
Rewilding London - Wetland Project Planning
The committee was scheduled to consult on proposals for the Rewilding London
project, which aims to manage surface water flows and increase aquatic habitats within Alexandra Park. This initiative is supported by a £50,000 grant from the Greater London Authority (GLA) for its first phase. The project, developed with input from the Hornsey Wetlands Action Group (HWAG) and the Friends of Alexandra Park, intends to control surface water, reclaim muddy paths, establish a new reed bed to benefit bird diversity, de-silt the pond to improve its capacity and quality, and create new ponds to expand aquatic habitats. While the grant covers the initial phase, planning permission will be sought for the entire scheme. The project may involve the felling of mature trees, which are protected as the site is a conservation area, though the Council's Tree team has indicated no objection in principle. Planning permission is expected to be sought over the summer, with works commencing in the autumn.
Solar Panels Planning Application
The committee was scheduled to consult on an application to install solar panels on the roof of the AP Cricket Club building. This project, in partnership with the Alexandra Park Club, involves the installation of 24 solar panels, estimated to generate 10,000 kWh of electricity annually, thereby avoiding 2.25 tonnes of CO2e emissions each year. It is anticipated that around 4,400 kWh will be used directly by the club, with the remaining 5,600 kWh exported to the grid. The panels will be installed on the southern aspect of the pavilion roof. Planning permission is required for this project, and a planning application was being prepared.
CEO's General Update Report
A general update on activities within Alexandra Park and Palace was scheduled for consideration. This report was expected to cover updates on Creative Learning, Park, Property, and Events activities. Previous updates have included details on repairs to the North East Office Building, efforts to reactivate the Campsbourne Building for community use, and visitor surveys for the northern area of the park. The report also typically includes information on volunteer activity, traffic improvements, and memorial benches.
Other Scheduled Discussions
The agenda also included items for matters raised by interested groups, feedback from non-voting board members, and views or questions from members of the public. Suggestions for future agendas were also to be considered.
