The General Purposes Committee of Brent Council is scheduled to consider a report regarding a severance payment for an employee's voluntary redundancy. The committee will also review minutes from a previous meeting.
Approval to Make Severance Payment
A key item on the agenda is a report seeking approval for a severance payment related to the voluntary redundancy of an employee. This payment includes an actuarial strain cost associated with the early release of pension benefits. As the total exit package is expected to exceed £100,000, the General Purposes Committee's approval is required. This severance payment is part of a restructure designed to meet agreed shared savings targets for the Shared Technology Service (STS), a joint IT service for Brent, Lewisham, and Southwark councils. The restructure aims to reduce the number of Heads of Service within STS from four to three, with the Head of Partnerships and Projects post being deleted. This move is intended to streamline operations and maintain the long-term sustainability of the service, particularly in light of Southwark Council's planned exit from the shared service by March 2028. The report indicates that the initial costs of this redundancy are expected to be recovered within approximately two years.
Minutes of the Previous Meeting
The committee is scheduled to review and approve the minutes from the previous General Purposes Committee meeting, which took place on Monday 27 July 2026.
