Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Havering and are not the council. About us
The Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) meeting scheduled for Tuesday 23 June 2026 was set to review previous meeting minutes, receive updates on school activities and national developments in Religious Education (RE), and discuss the Agreed Syllabus. The council was also due to elect a new Chair.
Election of Chair
The meeting was scheduled to include the election of a new Chair for the Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education.
Minutes of Previous Meetings and Matters Arising
The council was due to receive and approve the minutes from three previous meetings: 24 June 2025, 25 November 2025, and 12 February 2026. Any matters arising from these minutes that were not covered elsewhere on the agenda were also scheduled for discussion.
Update on School Activity
An update on recent activities within schools related to Religious Education was planned. This would include information on local initiatives and engagement.
National Developments in Religious Education
The agenda included a discussion on national developments concerning Religious Education. This would cover broader trends, policy changes, and their potential impact on RE provision. The report pack indicated that this topic would include information on new-style Ofsted reports and their mentions of RE, a Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government policy paper on building a cohesive society, and funding opportunities for teaching Christianity in RE. It also mentioned the NASACRE Conference and AGM, and the Westhill/NASACRE Awards.
Update on Agreed Syllabus
The council was scheduled to receive an update on the Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. This would likely involve discussions about its current status, any planned reviews, and potential future developments. The report pack highlighted that the syllabus was nearing its review date and that a survey of schools was intended to gather feedback on what they liked and what they wished to change. The potential adoption of a Religion & World Views
approach by the London Borough of Redbridge was also noted.
Any Other Business
This agenda item allowed for any other issues, previously notified to the Chair or Clerk, to be raised and discussed, provided they were not matters arising from the meeting itself or of an urgent nature.
Date of Next Meeting
The meeting was scheduled to confirm the dates and venues for the 2026-2027 SACRE meetings.
