The Health and Wellbeing Board of Bromley Council was scheduled to discuss a range of public health matters, including updates on childhood obesity, sexual health commissioning, and the progress of integrated neighbourhood teams. Childhood Obesity Update

The Board was scheduled to receive an update on childhood obesity in Bromley. Data from the National Child Measurement Programme indicated that in 2024/25, 7.4% of Reception-aged children (4-5 years) and 17.8% of Year 6 children (10-11 years) were living with obesity. This represents an increase from the start of primary school to the end of primary school. While Bromley's overall childhood obesity rates were lower than the national average, certain wards, such as St Paul's Cray and Crystal Palace & Anerley, showed higher prevalence. The report highlighted that obesity is associated with a wide range of health risks and is a priority in Bromley's Health and Wellbeing Strategy. The evaluation of child weight management pilots was informing the procurement of a new service for April 2027.

Integrated Neighbourhood Teams

An update was scheduled on the progress of Integrated Neighbourhood Teams (INTs) in Bromley. The report pack indicated that all four INTs were operational and treating patients, with multidisciplinary team working developing. Strategic investment funding had been secured to support the next phase of work, with a new pathway for residents with multiple long-term conditions commencing. The report also noted progress in frailty services and population health management, with a focus on using data to identify individuals at risk of hospital admission.

Better Care Fund Plan 2026-2027

The Board was due to consider the Bromley Better Care Fund (BCF) Plan for 2026/27. This plan was described as a transition year, focusing on mapping current activity, reviewing it against policy and evidence, and moving towards a defined future model. A steering group was to be established to oversee the BCF, with an emphasis on strengthening partnership working and maximising value for money.

NHS Health Checks Programme Update

An update was scheduled on the NHS Health Checks Programme, a statutory public health prevention programme aimed at reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and some forms of dementia. The programme targets individuals aged 40-74 years without pre-existing diagnoses and is delivered through GP practices and commissioned by the Bromley GP Alliance. In 2025-26, 10,164 NHS Health Checks were completed, with uptake improving but remaining below optimal levels. The programme prioritised higher-risk populations, and identified previously undiagnosed conditions. Challenges included improving uptake, addressing variations in GP practice systems, and continued recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

SEL Sexual Health Commissioning Strategy

A verbal update was scheduled on the South East London (SEL) Sexual Health Commissioning Strategy.
