The Planning Committee of Hinckley and Bosworth Council met on Tuesday 22 September 2026 to determine two planning applications. Both applications, concerning development in Earl Shilton and Markfield, were approved by the committee.
Peggs Close, Earl Shilton
The committee granted planning permission for the erection of 10 houses and 8 flats at Peggs Close, Earl Shilton. Councillors welcomed the proposals, noting that the development represented an improvement on the previous site. Concerns raised by Leicestershire Police regarding crime prevention were noted, and the Assistant Director Planning and Regeneration was given powers to determine the final detail of planning conditions and obligations, including those to address these comments. The decision was made subject to planning conditions, confirmation from Leicestershire County Council's Drainage Department, and the entering into of a Section 106 Agreement.
Land North East of Ashby Road, Markfield
Reserved matters approval was granted for the residential development of 93 dwellings, public open space, landscaping, and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) on land north east of Ashby Road, Markfield. This application was a cross-boundary one with Charnwood Borough Council. Members acknowledged that the outline planning permission for this site had been controversial. While some objections remained, they primarily related to the principle of development rather than the reserved matters currently before the committee. The approval is subject to planning conditions and grants the Assistant Director Planning and Regeneration powers to agree the resolution of outstanding ecology issues and determine the final details of planning conditions.
