The Bexley Council Planning Committee met on Thursday 8 October 2026, where they considered several planning applications. The committee approved one application and withdrew three others.
Planning Applications for Development
The committee considered four planning applications for development.
33 Hill Crescent, Bexley, Kent, DA5 2DA
The committee approved the erection of a first-floor extension to the existing bungalow at 33 Hill Crescent, Bexley, Kent, DA5 2DA, along with a single-storey rear extension and the installation of rooflights and solar panels. The proposal was met with 24 objections from 21 households, raising concerns about increased parking pressure, loss of privacy, overlooking, loss of light and outlook, overbearing impact due to scale and massing, and the proposal being out of character and constituting overdevelopment. Objectors also raised concerns about the intended use of the property, suggesting it resembled a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) or children's home, and the potential for increased noise and disturbance.
The applicant, Mr Rudy Dedushaj, stated that the proposal was to create a long-term family home to meet his family's needs, clarifying that it was intended to remain a single-family home and not an HMO or divided into flats.
Councillor Larry Ferguson asked officers if they were satisfied that a condition requiring obscure glazing for flank elevation windows would address privacy concerns, to which the Head of Planning confirmed it would. Councillor Terry Barcock noted that while the application had attracted objections, the intention was for it to remain a single-family home, and any change of use would require a fresh application. He concluded that the privacy aspect had been dealt with and recommended granting the application.
The application was moved by Councillor Ferguson and seconded by Councillor Barcock, and was subsequently approved.
Crook Log Sports Centre, Brampton Road, Bexleyheath, Kent, DA7 4HH
The application for the creation of a 'Golf Pod' practice facility with bays, an enclosed netting structure, and floodlighting at Crook Log Sports Centre was withdrawn. This application had been deferred from a previous meeting for members to visit a similar facility. Thirty-five additional objections were received, raising concerns about incomplete lighting and noise assessments, overbearing visual impact, intensification of use, inadequate parking, and disproportionate impact on those with disabilities. Louie French MP also wrote to request that constituents' concerns regarding noise, floodlighting, health and wellbeing, and the impact on Aspire Academy be carefully considered.
Land Adjacent To 1 - 18 Evans Court, Sherman Close, Crayford, Dartford, Kent
The application for the erection of a second floor to provide four self-contained residential units on land adjacent to 1-18 Evans Court, Sherman Close, Crayford, Dartford, Kent, was withdrawn. The proposal had received 19 letters of objection from 13 neighbouring addresses and a petition signed by 54 people, citing concerns about overdevelopment, increased parking pressure, strain on local services, loss of privacy, sunlight, and outlook, construction disruption, and structural issues.
176 Westwood Lane, Welling, Kent, DA16 2HN
The application for the erection of a first floor to a single-storey dwelling with a habitable roof space, including rear dormer windows and rooflights, and the addition of a single-storey front porch at 176 Westwood Lane, Welling, Kent, DA16 2HN, was withdrawn. Councillor Dave Curtois had requested the application be referred to the Planning Committee due to concerns about the scale and nature of the proposal, including the substantial increase in height, bulk, and massing, the potential for overbearing and enclosing effects on neighbouring properties, and compliance with Bexley's design guidance. Objections also raised concerns about increased parking pressure, loss of privacy, light, and outlook, and the proposal being out of character and constituting overdevelopment.
