The Surrey Local Firefighters' Pension Board met on Monday 05 October 2026 to review the action tracker, scheme management update report, fire bulletins, and risk registers. The Board noted the content of these reports and agreed to close one action item.
Surrey Firefighters' Pension Board Action and Recommendation Tracker
The Board reviewed the Action and Recommendation Tracker. Action A6/23, concerning the 2026 Annual Benefit Statements (ABS) and Remedial Service Statements (RSS), was proposed for closure and to be moved to business as usual. It was noted that 82% of these statements were published by the deadline of 30 August 2026, with a report from XPS awaited to explain the reasons for the remaining 18% being outstanding. The Board agreed to close this action and to receive a final update in the Scheme Manager's Report at the next meeting. Other outstanding actions remain open and will continue to be monitored.
Scheme Management Update Report
Jo Hart, Pensions Manager for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), presented the Scheme Management Update Report. The Chair, Sally Wilson, noted the comprehensive nature of the report, highlighting positive activity, including preparations for the transition to a Combined Fire and Rescue Authority (CFRA) on 1 April 2027, with a draft Scheme of Delegation being developed. The report also detailed work on additional support for those approaching retirement, in collaboration with The Fire Fighters Charity and the Service Wellbeing Coordinator.
During the discussion, Paul Bowyer, Employee Representative, raised a question regarding the scope and options for retired members to be involved in the Board. Councillor Wilson noted that governance arrangements were being reviewed in light of Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) and that this would be discussed with colleagues. An action was taken for the Pensions Manager to explore this proposal further. Another action was agreed to ensure that Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) would include information on the continuity of oversight for the Firefighters' Pension Scheme and its administration.
Fire Bulletins
The Board noted the most recent Fire Bulletins (103, 104, 105, 106, 107, and 108) which had been published since the last meeting. No specific comments or questions were raised regarding these bulletins.
Risk Registers
Jo Hart, Pensions Manager, presented the updated Risk Registers. The Board noted that the registers reflected relevant risks at that moment and that there were no additional points to highlight by exception. The Board noted the updated Risk Register.
The meeting then moved into a private session to discuss exempt information.
