Gas Contract Correction

Councillor Johann Beckford, Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Services, approved a variation and novation of the council's contract for the supply of natural gas. This change, effective from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2029, rectifies a clerical error in the supplier's name, changing it from Corona Energy Limited to Corona Energy Retail 4 Limited. This correction is necessary because Corona Energy Limited is currently in Members Voluntary Liquidation, and Corona Energy Retail 4 Limited is the entity that was awarded the contract under the LASER framework Y22008. The decision was made in accordance with the Council's Contract Standing Orders (CSOs) 18.03, 2.01(d), 0.08, and 18.04.3.

The reason for the decision was to ensure the contract accurately reflects the correct parties involved. The alternative of doing nothing was rejected as it could lead to difficulties in enforcing the contract and resolving disputes, particularly given the liquidation of Corona Energy Limited. The report noted that the variation has no monetary value, and the overall contract value remains £19.76 million. The decision was made following the approval of the contract award by Cabinet on 12 March 2024. ¹
