The Licensing Act Sub Committee of Cornwall Council met on Wednesday 16 September 2026. The meeting was held to consider an application to vary the premises licence for The Three Ferrets pub in St Ives. Due to a declared conflict of interest by a committee member, the application was deferred to a future meeting.
Application to Vary the Premises Licence for The Three Ferrets, 17 Chapel Street, St Ives, TR26 2LR
The committee was due to consider an application to vary the premises licence for The Three Ferrets, located at 17 Chapel Street, St Ives, TR26 2LR. The proposed variations included extending the hours for recorded music and the supply of alcohol to midnight, extending opening hours to 00:30, and allowing doors and windows to be open between 10:00 and 18:00 daily.
However, the meeting was deferred due to Councillor Chopak declaring a non-registerable interest in the application. This was due to a professional connection with one of the individuals who had made a representation against the application. The Senior Lawyer advised that, in accordance with Regulation 11 of The Licensing Act 2003 (Hearings) Regulations 2005, the application needed to be deferred to avoid any perception of bias.
The resolution was that the application for the Variation of a Premises Licence for The Three Ferrets be deferred to the 30 September 2026 Licensing Act Sub-Committee meeting for consideration.
The meeting was attended by Councillors Moorcroft (Chair), Chopak, and Saunby. Officers present included Rowena Brebner (Democratic Officer), Kingsley Keat (Senior Lawyer), and Ali Lewis (Licensing Officer).
