Summary
The Ashfield District Council Licensing Committee met on Wednesday 19 June 2024 and agreed to grant a licence for the sale of alcohol at a new restaurant in Sutton in Ashfield. They also agreed to a change in licensing hours over the Christmas period for all pubs in the district.
Application for a premises licence: The Ugly Duckling, 12 High Pavement, Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, NG17 1FZ
Councillors considered a request by a Mr A Stott of The Ugly Duckling restaurant in Sutton in Ashfield for permission to sell alcohol at his restaurant.
The applicant is seeking permission for the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises, Monday to Sunday from 12pm to 11pm.
The police had initially objected to the application but withdrew their objection following discussions with Mr Stott.
The Sub-committee voted unanimously to grant Mr Stott’s application for a licence to sell alcohol for consumption on the premises.
Christmas period licensing hours
Councillors reviewed the current rules on opening hours for licensed premises during the christmas period.
The hours set out in the Licensing Act 2003 for licensable activities on New Year’s Eve are that licensable activities must end by midnight and the premises must close by 1am unless the premises have been granted an extension to their existing hours.
The meeting agreed unanimously to extend licensing hours on 24, 25 & 26 December and 31 December. This means that pubs in Ashfield can stay open for an hour later than usual on those dates. The police did not object to this change.
