Request support for Scottish Borders
We're not currently able to provide detailed weekly summaries for Scottish Borders Council. We need support from the council to:
- Ensure we can reliably access and process council meeting information
- Cover the costs of processing and summarizing council data
- Maintain and improve the service for residents

The most significant item on the agenda for the 13 December meeting of the Scottish Borders Council Civic Government Licensing Committee was to be applications for short-term let licences. The meeting was also to be asked to consider issuing a range of other licences.
Licensing of Short Term Lets
The meeting was scheduled to consider two applications for short-term let licences in Peebles. Both applications received objections.
Dunslair, Venlaw High Road, Peebles EH45 8RL
The meeting was to consider an application for a short-term let licence for Dunslair. The report pack included two objections from members of the public, but no representations from consultees.
Rathcaraig, Venlaw High Road, Peebles EH45 8RL
The meeting was also to consider an application for a short-term let licence for Rathcaraig. The report pack included two objections from members of the public, but no representations from consultees.
Licensing of Taxi, Private Hire Vehicles and Drivers
The meeting was scheduled to consider an application for a taxi licence that had been opposed by Police Scotland. The report pack noted that the applicant had been asked to attend the meeting.
Licences issued under Delegated Powers
The meeting was to receive details of licences issued by officers using delegated powers since the last meeting.
These included:
- A temporary market operator licence for the Peebles Christmas Market on 1 December 2024, to be run by the Peebles Christmas Lights Association.
- A private hire vehicle licence for Pro Race Scotland.
- A temporary public entertainment licence for a funfair in Kelso to be operated by Kenneth Stuart.
- A home sharing and letting licence for Branxholm Castle, to be operated by Carol Shanley.
- A skin piercing and tattoo licence for Kelly Richardson.
- A skin piercing, cosmetic body piercing and acupuncture licence for Professionals for Health in Lauder.
- A taxi driver licence for Alexander Watson.
Minutes
The meeting was scheduled to approve the minutes of the previous meeting of the committee, which took place on 22 November 2024. The minutes from that meeting show that the committee considered applications for short-term let licences for 3 Morningside in Innerleithen, and 24 Caerlee Mill in Innerleithen.
The minutes from the previous meeting also show that the committee discussed a protocol for short-term let hearings.
