Summary
This meeting was scheduled to consider the appointment of a new Corporate Director of Adults, Housing and Health for Haringey Council. No members of the public were permitted to attend the discussion of the appointment itself.
Appointment of a new Corporate Director of Adults, Housing and Health
The meeting was scheduled to discuss the appointment of a new Corporate Director of Adults, Housing and Health. The post became vacant in October 2024, and the council contracted an executive recruitment agency to advertise the role. Six candidates applied for the role.
A long-list of five candidates was interviewed for the role by officers on 5 December 2024. The remaining candidates also had informal conversations with Andy Donald, the Chief Executive of Haringey Council1, and were interviewed by a panel of stakeholders, including residents and external partners, on 10 December 2024. They then attended a final interview with a panel made up of the Leader of the Council, Cllr Peray Ahmet, and four other Councillors, Cllr Sarah Williams, Cllr Cressida Johnson, Cllr Pippa Connor and Cllr Lucia das Neves, on 12 December 2024.
The meeting report pack includes a recommendation that the successful candidate be appointed on a salary of between £159,687 and £185,316, depending on experience. Because the salary is higher than £100,000, the meeting report pack notes that the meeting must formally agree the salary, which must also be consistent with Haringey Council's Pay Policy Statement2.
The report acknowledges that under the Local Authorities (Standing Orders) (England) Regulations 2001, the Appointments Panel is prevented from making the appointment if a formal objection is received from any Cabinet Member, unless ...the Appointments Panel has declared itself satisfied that the objection is not material or well-founded
