The meeting was closed to the public so that the committee could decide which of the candidates for the role of Chief Executive of Surrey County Council should go through to the next stage of the recruitment process.
Appointment of a new Chief Executive
The committee met in private to discuss the candidates for the role of Chief Executive and decide which of them should progress to the next stage of the selection process.
That under Section 100(A) of the Local Government Act 1972, the public be excluded from the meeting for the following items of business on the grounds that they involve the likely disclosure of exempt information under the relevant paragraphs of Part 1 of Schedule 12A of the Act.
This decision was made because the discussion was likely to involve information that is normally exempt from publication under the Local Government Act 19721.
-
The Local Government Act 1972 is a law that sets out how local councils in England and Wales should be run. It includes rules about what information councils have to make public and what they can keep private. In this case, the council has decided that the information being discussed is confidential because it relates to the appointment of a new Chief Executive. They argue that making this information public could harm the council's ability to find the best person for the job. ↩
