The Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee were scheduled to meet on 12 May 2025 to discuss draft recommendations from the 2024-25 scrutiny review. The meeting was also scheduled to confirm the minutes of the previous meeting.
2024-25 Scrutiny Review - Draft Recommendations
The main item for discussion was scheduled to be the draft recommendations from the 2024-25 scrutiny review. The agenda stated that these recommendations were TO FOLLOW
, but a separate document containing the Draft Recommendations was available.
Minutes from the previous meeting
The minutes from the meeting held on 1 April 2025 were scheduled to be confirmed as an accurate record of proceedings.
Items discussed at the previous meeting included:
- A special guardianship update, where members heard that Islington was working with 181 special guardians and that there was a
fairly comprehensive family and friend carer service provided to them
. - School results from 2024, where members were told that there had been improvement across nineteen indicators, but that some key performance indicators were lower than the London average.
- An attendance update, where members were told that officers continued to acknowledge that attendance was not where it was wanted to be locally and that this would continue to be addressed through a programme of action.
- A 12-month update on the 2022-23 scrutiny review into Making Children Visible. Members were told that the Children's Wellbeing in Schools Bill would introduce compulsory registers for children not in school and require local-authority consent for home education in certain circumstances.
