The Strategic Planning Committee of Barnet Council met on Tuesday 20 February 2024 to discuss several planning applications. The committee approved the Golders Green Eruv application, granted approval for the Building 9 and Hendon Library redevelopment, and approved the Ravensfield House development, subject to referral to the Mayor of London. Consideration of the Land Formerly Known As British Gas Works Albert Road Barnet application was adjourned due to time constraints.
Golders Green Eruv
The committee approved the application for the Golders Green Eruv, which involves the installation of poles and connecting wires between the North Circular Road, Finchley Road, and Hendon Way. Councillor Eva Greenspan declared an interest due to her involvement in establishing the Eruv in 1989. The application was approved by 9 votes to 0, with delegated authority granted to the Director of Planning and Building Control for minor alterations to the conditions.
Building 9 and Hendon Library, The Burroughs, London, NW4 4BQ
Full planning permission and listed building consent were granted for the redevelopment of Building 9 and Hendon Library. The proposal includes the demolition of the former clinic and rear library extension, and the erection of a four-storey teaching block, with connections to Hendon Library and Hendon Town Hall Annex. The existing library will also be internally altered and refurbished. Councillor Rishikesh Chakraborty declared a longstanding opposition to the Hendon Hub
and recused himself from the discussion and vote. An informative was added to the permission stating that the library should be used for public library purposes only, which was agreed by 6 votes to 2. The applications were approved by 8 votes to 0.
Ravensfield House, Fenella Buildings, 1 - 3 Burroughs Parade And 3 Egerton Gardens, The Burroughs, London, NW4 4BD
The committee approved the application for Ravensfield House, subject to an agreement or unilateral undertaking. The application was of strategic importance to London and will be referred to the Mayor of London. The decision was made by the Chair using his casting vote after the committee was tied with 4 votes for and 4 against approval. Delegated authority was granted to the Director of Planning and Building Control for minor alterations to conditions. Councillor Rishikesh Chakraborty returned to the committee room after the previous item. The meeting was extended until 10:30 PM.
Land Formerly Known As British Gas Works Albert Road Barnet
The committee considered the application for the land formerly known as British Gas Works Albert Road Barnet. Following presentations and objections from Councillor Philip Cohen and Theresa Villiers MP, the committee agreed to adjourn the meeting due to time constraints. Consideration of the remaining elements of this item will be deferred to a special meeting or the next scheduled meeting. Only members who were present at this meeting will be able to participate in the discussion and vote when it reconvenes.
