The Licensing, Environment & Safety Sub-Committee B met on Monday 30 June 2025 and approved a variation to the premises licence for Duttons, allowing the use of its frontage area until 10pm. The committee also adopted new conditions to mitigate potential public nuisance.
Application to Vary Premises Licence at Duttons
The sub-committee considered an application from JW Lees & Co (Brewers) Ltd to vary the premises licence for Duttons, located at Ack Lane East, Bramhall, Stockport, SK7 2BY. The proposed variation sought to extend the permitted use of the frontage area between the pub and the public footpath from 8pm to 10pm.
The application was met with objections from local residents concerned about potential noise nuisance, specifically relating to the prevention of public nuisance licensing objective. These residents argued that extending the use of the frontage area would exacerbate noise issues.
The applicant, JW Lees & Co (Brewers) Ltd, presented their case and proposed several conditions to address these concerns. These included:
- The external seating area at the frontage being used for seated customers only.
- Notices being displayed on each external table reminding customers to respect local residents.
- The external doors leading to the external seating area at the frontage being closed after 8pm.
The sub-committee, chaired by Councillor Dickie Davies, heard from both the applicant and the objectors. After considering the arguments and the relevant parts of the Council's Licensing Policy, the sub-committee resolved to approve the variation. The decision was made to allow the frontage area to be used up to 10pm, and the proposed conditions were adopted to address the prevention of public nuisance. These conditions included the use of the external seating area for seated customers only, the display of reminder notices, and the closure of external doors to the seating area after 8pm.
The sub-committee was satisfied that no relevant representations had been raised concerning the prevention of crime and disorder, protection of children from harm, or public safety licensing objectives.
The full details of the application and the current premises licence can be found in the Public reports pack. The minutes of the meeting are available here.
