The Sutton South, Cheam and Belmont Local Committee met on 3 July 2025, to discuss a Sutton Housing Partnership update, Christmas lights, and local funding. The committee was also scheduled to hear a community showcase from the Family Hubs Team and Childrens Centre Manager, and to take public questions.
Sutton Housing Partnership Update
Sutton Housing Partnership (SHP) was scheduled to provide an update on planned major works and common issues raised by residents, as well as how the organisation resolves these issues. SHP planned to discuss their purpose and priorities, which include:
- A productive partnership with residents based on mutual trust.
- Investing in tenants' homes to keep them safe and hazard-free.
- Delivering an exceptional customer experience through professional staff.
The report pack stated that SHP was facing an inspection from the Regulator of Social Housing, who would be examining their services to check how they compare against consumer standards.
The presentation also detailed ways for residents to get involved with SHP, such as through Resident Action Groups, Resident Engagement Mornings, Community Walkabouts, Estate Action Days, the Resident Voice Panel, Resident Focus Groups, and community activities. A Shanklin Community Action Day was scheduled for 27 August.
Public Realm and Local Funding
The committee was scheduled to receive an update on local funding. The report pack included a grants update, listing organisations and events that had been granted funding:
- Cheam Chamber of Trade - Cheam Christmas: £900
- Royal British Legion Belmont - Remembrance Day Insurance: £200
- Sutton Lodge - Senior Summer Social: £1,100
- Sutton United - New Cerebral Palsy Team costs: £1,400
- Friends of Cheam Park - Gardening & Promotional material: £568
- Cheam & Cuddington Horticultural Society - Equipment for Shows: £915
- The Hello Club - Hello Arts & Crafts equipment: £675
- Get On Downs - Summer Family Picnic: £930
- The Percenters Project - Young People's Mental Health: £312
The total funding granted amounted to £7,000.
Christmas Lights Update
The committee was scheduled to receive an update on the provision of Christmas lights in 2024 and proposals for 2025.
Community Showcase
The Family Hubs Team and Childrens Centre Manager were scheduled to give an overview of their services and explain what is on offer for children and families over the summer.
Public Questions
The agenda included an opportunity for members of the public to raise questions about local issues. According to the agenda, questions had to be submitted using a form on the council website.
