Community Grants Programme
The South of the Borough Neighbourhood Committee approved a Neighbourhood Community Grant of £3,000 for Voices of Hope (VoH) to support their BRITE Box programme. The BRITE Box project provides weekly meal kits with ingredients and recipes to families at risk of food insecurity. The kits are designed to enable families to prepare and enjoy a balanced meal together, with each recipe costing less than £5 to recreate for a family of five.
The report noted that VoH collaborates with schools, the local authority, youth groups, and charities to identify and support families in need. For this grant, VoH will work with Castle Hill Primary School to support nine families for 36 weeks, delivering a total of 324 BRITE Boxes. The report stated that 21% of pupils at Castle Hill Primary School are in receipt of Free School Meals (FSM).
The report also detailed the costs associated with the project:
- Food ingredients: £1,571
- Project management staff costs: £1,053
- Packing & printing costs: £194
- Core overhead contribution: £395
The total cost of the project is £3,214, with the grant covering £3,000 and the organisation contributing £214.
The report highlighted that the project aligns with the fairer
strand of the South of the Borough Community Plan, which aims to support vulnerable individuals and communities. While the Neighbourhood Community Grant guidelines typically discourage repeat applications for the same activities, exceptions are made when the organisation demonstrates significant community benefit and provides evidence of fundraising efforts from other sources. The committee has funded this project in previous years.
