The Health and Adult Social Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee were scheduled to discuss their work programme for the coming year, and to receive updates from the Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health Partnerships, and the Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Public Health. An additional urgent item was added to the agenda regarding the temporary closure of the Launceston Minor Injuries Unit.

Launceston Minor Injuries Unit

The committee were scheduled to discuss the temporary closure of the Launceston Minor Injuries Unit (MIU). The report pack included an apology for the lack of engagement about the staffing challenges that led to the closure.

According to the briefing note in the supplementary agenda, staffing levels at the unit were at about half their usual levels due to different types of leave across the clinical and operational team. It was stated that the decision to temporarily close the MIU was taken to ensure clinical safety, and that the trust was exploring options to resume services safely.

The committee were asked to formally accept an apology for the lack of engagement.

Committee Work Programme 2025/26

The committee were scheduled consider and approve their work programme for the year. The report pack included a draft work programme, and the committee were asked to approve it.

The work programme is a tool for identifying, prioritising, conducting and reviewing the committee's work. The work programming process is designed to be member led, and to provide for the public and other stakeholders to make suggestions as to topics.

The report pack stated that each item on the work programme is focused on outcomes and how the Overview and Scrutiny Committee can be seen to help identify solutions to the issue, and to lead to improvements for local people.
