September 2, 2025 View on council websiteSummary
The Eastbourne Borough Council Conservation Advisory Group met on 2 September 2025 to discuss planning applications and new listings in Eastbourne. The group was also scheduled to confirm the minutes of their last meeting and the date of the next one.
Here's what was on the agenda:
Planning Application: Eastbourne Bandstand
The group was scheduled to consider planning permission (reference 250412) and listed buildings consent (reference 250413) for the Eastbourne Bandstand. The proposal involves:
Improvement and safety measure works to bandstand seating areas.
The bandstand is located within the Town Centre and Seafront Conservation Area.
Minutes from Previous Meeting
The advisory group was expected to confirm the minutes from their meeting held on 8 July 2025. At that meeting, the group:
- Heard from Chris Connelley, Specialist Advisor, Conservation, regarding an outline planning permission application for the Chatsworth Hotel. The application (reference 250249) proposed a five-storey rear extension to create 12 additional bedrooms. The group had no 'in principle' objection to the proposal, but members requested that consideration be given to ensuring that the new extension was as accessible as possible and included sustainability features.
- Heard from Chris Connelley, Specialist Advisor, Conservation, that there were no new listings.
New Listings
Chris Connelley, Specialist Advisor, Conservation, was scheduled to provide a verbal update to the group on newly listed buildings in Eastbourne.
Date of Next Meeting
The date of the next meeting was scheduled to be confirmed as 4 November 2025. The minutes of the previous meeting noted that an application(s) potentially due for consideration at the next meeting could benefit from a co-ordinated site visit, with the meeting to follow on, which Members agreed to if required.
