The North Hertfordshire District Council's Cabinet Panel on the Environment meeting on 17 September 2025 was cut short due to the presenter for the main agenda item being unable to attend. Consequently, all agenda items, including a presentation from the Letchworth Heritage Foundation, were deferred to the next scheduled meeting.
Letchworth Heritage Foundation Presentation
A presentation from the Letchworth Heritage Foundation regarding their design principles and sustainability was scheduled but did not take place. The presentation was intended to address an ongoing action to review the asks of Decarbonise Letchworth concerning retrofitting and Supplementary Planning Guidance1.
Council Activity Update and Action Tracker
The Cabinet Panel on the Environment was scheduled to discuss a note highlighting council activity related to sustainability and to review the Action Tracker.
The Council Activity Update and Action Tracker included updates on:
- Hertfordshire Climate Change and Sustainability Partnership (HCCSP) The third round of Solar Together[^1] has closed with over 650 residents registered. The Hertfordshire Retrofit Strategy has launched. [^1]: Solar Together is a group-buying scheme for solar panels.
- Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) A public consultation ran throughout the summer, closing on 8 September.
- Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) The project to decarbonise leisure facilities is progressing. An updated feasibility assessment has been produced for Hitchin Town Hall, North Herts Museum, District Council Offices and the learner pool at North Herts Leisure Centre.
- Climate Engagement The Climate Hive, the council's engagement hub for climate change and sustainability, has 612 subscribers.
- Sustainability Strategy 2025-2030 The new Sustainability Strategy 2025-2030 is now available on the website.
- Sustainable Communities Grant The Sustainable Communities Grant, funded by UKSPF[^3], launched and was open to applications until 14 September. [^3]: The UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) is a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025.

Other Business
No other business was considered at the meeting. Councillor Amy Allen, Executive Member for Environment and Chair of the Cabinet Panel on the Environment, advised that any suggestions for the panel's consideration could be sent to EnvironmentPanel@north-herts.gov.uk.
