The Planning Committee of Ealing Council met on Wednesday 19 November 2025 to discuss a review of Ealing's conservation areas. The meeting was scheduled to consider representations received regarding proposed changes to conservation area boundaries, including extensions, reductions, and new designations.

Review of Ealing's Conservation Areas

The committee was scheduled to consider proposed changes to Ealing's conservation areas. This included recommendations for extending the boundaries of several conservation areas, such as Acton Town Centre, Bedford Park, Brunswick, Canalside, Creffield, Ealing Common, Ealing Cricket Ground, Ealing Green, Hanwell Clock Tower, Hanwell Village Green, Haven Green, Mill Hill Park, Northolt Village Green, and St. Stephen's.

Conversely, proposals were also scheduled for the reduction of boundaries for Acton Green, Acton Park, Hanwell Clock Tower, Montpelier Park, Norwood Green, and St. Mark's Church and Canal conservation areas.

A new conservation area was proposed for Lammas Park. However, the designation of the Northfields Conservation Area was recommended for further assessment due to concerns about its special significance and the extent of its proposed boundary.

The committee was also to note a proposal for a further report concerning Article 4 Directions, which would provide greater control over physical or use changes to buildings and architectural features within conservation areas. These directions would aim to replace existing ones and potentially introduce new controls for residential areas currently lacking them. The report detailed the extensive consultation process undertaken, including engagement with Conservation Area Advisory Panels, stakeholders, residents' associations, and heritage bodies. The recommendations were based on the views of these groups, as well as officer assessments. The strategic objectives of the Ealing Council Plan 2022-2026 were also considered in relation to how the conservation area review aligns with creating good jobs, tackling the climate crisis, and fighting inequality.

The meeting also included standard agenda items such as apologies for absence, urgent matters, declarations of interest, and matters to be considered in private. Minutes from the previous meeting held on 22 October 2025 were also scheduled for approval, along with a review of site visit attendance.
