Code of Conduct Complaints Received in 2024/2025

The committee reviewed a report detailing the 23 code of conduct complaints received by the Monitoring Officer between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2025. Of these, 12 were against members of West Suffolk Council, but none resulted in a finding of a breach. The report, which included a description of each complaint, the relevant parts of the Code of Conduct alleged to have been breached, and the outcome, was noted by the committee. The Standards Procedures, which outline the process for handling complaints, were also provided as an appendix. These procedures detail how written complaints are received, assessed, and investigated, including the role of an Independent Person. The procedures also outline the potential outcomes, ranging from no breach to referral to the Standards Committee, and the sanctions that can be applied.

Government Response to Consultation on Strengthening the Standards and Conduct Framework

The Monitoring Officer was scheduled to provide a verbal update on the government's response to its consultation on strengthening the standards and conduct framework for local authorities in England. This item was to inform the committee of any proposed changes at a national level that might affect local standards procedures.

Election of Vice Chair

The committee was due to elect a Vice Chair for the 2025/2026 year. This followed the previous meeting on 10 July 2025, where the election had been postponed.
