Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Shropshire and are not the council. About us
The Southern Planning Committee of Shropshire Council was scheduled to discuss a significant proposal for an outdoor hub at Attingham Park, alongside plans for an affordable dwelling in Clunbury and the installation of a BT Street Hub unit in Bridgnorth. The committee was also due to review a schedule of appeals and appeal decisions.
National Trust Attingham Park, Atcham, Shrewsbury
The committee was scheduled to consider a full planning application for an Outdoor Hub
at the National Trust Attingham Park estate. The proposal includes the construction of an outdoor hub building featuring a visitor welcome area, cafe, food and beverage kiosks, kitchen, toilets, staff welfare facilities, and a bike hire/maintenance area. It also encompasses the development of a car park with electric vehicle charging points and overflow parking, the interpretation and refurbishment of a former WWII runway and aerodrome, and the creation of new and restored site routes, including 13km of trails, wildlife viewing areas, and children's play areas. Additionally, the plans detail cycle skills tracks, new green corridors, orchard and wildflower planting, wetland habitat creation, and sustainable drainage systems. The report pack indicated a recommendation for approval, subject to the completion of a Section 106 agreement and the refinement of conditions.
Land north of Little Brampton, Clunbury
A discussion was scheduled regarding an outline application for the erection of an affordable dwelling and detached garage on land north of Little Brampton, Clunbury. The proposal also includes the formation of a replacement vehicular access and the installation of a package sewage treatment plant. Matters of appearance, landscaping, layout, and scale were reserved for future consideration. The report pack indicated a recommendation for refusal, citing the site's isolated location in open countryside and its potential to detract from the character and scenic beauty of the Shropshire Hills National Landscape.
Footpath Outside 75 High Street, Bridgnorth
The committee was set to consider applications for advertisement consent and full planning permission for the installation of a BT Street Hub Unit with advertisement panels on the footpath outside 75 High Street, Bridgnorth. The report pack recommended refusal, stating that the proposed double-sided illuminated hub sign would cause significant harm to the streetscape and the character and appearance of the Bridgnorth Town Centre Conservation Area, as well as the setting of nearby listed buildings.
Schedule of Appeals and Appeal Decisions
The committee was also scheduled to review the Schedule of Appeals and Appeal Decisions
document, which details recent appeal outcomes relevant to the committee's area. This document provides information on various planning appeals, including those related to residential developments, changes of use, and enforcement notices.
The meeting was also due to cover standard procedural items, including apologies for absence, confirmation of minutes from the previous meeting, and public question time. Members were reminded of their obligations regarding disclosable pecuniary interests. The date of the next meeting was also to be noted.
