The Economy and Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee of Shropshire Council was scheduled to discuss the Community Safety Partnership Annual Report 2024-25 and the introduction of weekly food waste collections. The committee was also due to review its work programme for the upcoming year.
Community Safety Partnership Annual Report 2024-25
The committee was scheduled to consider the Shropshire Community Safety Partnership Annual Report for 2024-25. This report details the progress made by the partnership in tackling crime and disorder across the county, focusing on achievements against its agreed strategic priorities. The report highlights a reduction in various crime types, including a 9.3% decrease in all crime, a 12.7% fall in violence with injury, and a 16.5% reduction in domestic abuse offences. It also outlines the partnership's strategic plans and priorities for the forthcoming year, 2025-26. Key priorities for the period covered included reducing reoffending, tackling drug and alcohol misuse, addressing hate crime, community tensions and extremism, domestic abuse, violence reduction, and anti-social behaviour. The report also details the establishment of sub-groups to deliver specific work focused on these priorities and notes a transition in the partnership's structure.
Introduction of Weekly Food Waste Collections
The committee was scheduled to receive a report on the introduction of weekly food waste collections. This initiative is a requirement of the Simpler Recycling Legislation, which came into effect in March 2025, mandating that all households must have a weekly food waste collection by 31 March 2026. The report was expected to outline the progress Shropshire Council has made in implementing this requirement, as well as the challenges and additional financial burdens associated with it.
Economy and Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee Work Programme
The committee was due to discuss its Work Programme for 2025-2026 and consider potential topics for inclusion. This is a regular review of the committee's planned activities and priorities for the coming year.
