Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Islington and are not the council. About us
The Employment and Appointments Committee of Islington Council met on 19 March 2026. The primary item scheduled for discussion was the appointment of a Corporate Director of Resources.
Appointment of Corporate Director of Resources
The committee was scheduled to consider the appointment of a candidate to the significant role of Corporate Director of Resources. This position is key to supporting and enabling the delivery of the council's missions and objectives, including the Islington Together 2030 Plan. The report pack indicated that the committee had previously, on 9 March 2026, approved a shortlist of candidates for interview.
The committee was asked to:
- Appoint a candidate to the post.
- Note the advertised salary for the role, which was Grade CO1, ranging from £132,823 to £159,330, and agree the final salary or parameters for the offer.
- Note that any employment offer would be subject to the Executive Notification Procedure.
The report summary stated that the appointment process was being conducted in accordance with the Council's Constitution, Part 4 Procedure Rules – Officer Employment Rules. It also noted that an Equalities Impact Assessment Screening had been completed, and a full assessment was not deemed necessary due to the established recruitment procedures. The timetable indicated that interviews were scheduled for 19 March 2026, with a subsequent offer of employment subject to the Executive Notification Procedure and discussion with the successful candidate regarding a start date. The appendix containing the applications for consideration was exempt from publication.
The report also detailed that the salary for this post is covered by existing budgets and that there were no climate change or environmental implications identified. The recruitment process was described as an internal process, with no specific community engagement planned beyond the interview stage.
The committee was also scheduled to consider whether to exclude the press and public from discussions concerning the appointment, in view of the potentially exempt or confidential nature of the information related to the candidates.
The meeting was scheduled to take place at Islington Town Hall, Upper Street, London, N1 2UD.
