Corporate Resources and Economy Scrutiny Committee - Thursday, 11th December, 2025 7.30 pm

The Islington Planning Committee met to discuss a hybrid planning application for the New Barnsbury Estate, which includes both detailed and outline elements for up to 1,161 homes, a nursery, a community centre, commercial space, and extensive landscaping; the committee heard objections from residents and the Islington Society, but ultimately voted to approve the scheme due to overwhelming support from residents.

Health, Wellbeing and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Committee - Monday, 8th December, 2025 7.30 pm

The Health, Wellbeing and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Committee met to discuss the Islington Safeguarding Adults Board annual report, the public health performance report for quarter 1, and the impact of smoking on life expectancy. Councillors also reviewed the committee's work programme for the upcoming year.

Council - Thursday, 4th December, 2025 7.30 pm

The Islington Council meeting of 4 December 2025 included discussion of the council tax support scheme, a review of the constitution, and a new gambling policy. Councillors were also scheduled to discuss support for children, local government funding, and renter's rights. In addition to these items, the council was expected to discuss questions raised by members of the public and the youth council.

Freedom of the Borough, Council - Thursday, 4th December, 2025 7.00 pm

In a special meeting, Islington Council awarded David John Dade the Freedom of the Borough in recognition of his extensive voluntary work with the Islington Poppy Appeal. Councillors praised Dade's dedication to veterans and the community, highlighting his fundraising efforts and support for those in need. The motion was moved by Councillor Una O'Halloran, Leader of the Council, seconded by Councillor Santiago Bell-Bradford (Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Inclusive Economy, Culture & Jobs), and passed unanimously.
