The Planning Committee of Islington Council met on Monday 1 June 2026 to agree the minutes of the previous meeting and to appoint members to the Planning Sub-Committees. The committee confirmed the minutes of the April meeting and approved the proposed membership and political balance of the two Planning Sub-Committees.

Appointment of Members to Planning Sub-Committees

The committee agreed the proposed membership of the Planning Sub-Committees, ensuring political balance in line with the Local Government and Housing Act 1989. Each sub-committee will comprise five councillors, with three seats allocated to the Labour Group and two to the Green Group. Councillor Kane Emerson was appointed Chair of Planning Sub-Committee A, and Councillor Toby North was appointed Chair of Planning Sub-Committee B. All members and substitute members of the Planning Committee will be able to act as substitute members on the Planning Sub-Committees. The terms of reference for the Planning Committee and its sub-committees, as outlined in the Council's Constitution, were also noted. This decision was made to ensure the effective functioning of the committee in determining planning applications.
