Standards Committee - Wednesday 18th June 2025 6.30 p.m.

At a meeting of the Standards Committee of Newham Council, Councillor Steve Brayshaw was appointed Chair, and a discussion was held on the composition of the committee, specifically regarding the possibility of having a committee comprised entirely of independent members. The committee also reviewed the government's consultation outcome on remote attendance and proxy voting in local authorities, and received a quarterly report on member training attendance.

Chief Officer Appointment Committee - Thursday 12th June 2025 12.30 p.m.

The Chief Officer Appointments Committee met to establish sub-committees responsible for appointments to several chief officer posts. These sub-committees are responsible for making appointments to the posts of Corporate Director, Environment & Sustainable Transport, Corporate Director, Adults & Health, Director of Housing Needs, and Director of Housing Services. The meeting was scheduled to discuss the size and membership of these sub-committees.

Annual Meeting, Council - Thursday 22nd May 2025 7.00 p.m.

The annual council meeting for the London Borough of Newham convened on 22 May 2025, featuring the election of Councillor Dr Rohit Kumar Dasgupta as the new Chair of Council and Councillor Imam Haque as the Vice-Chair. Councillors also discussed the calendar of meetings for the upcoming municipal year, political proportionality, and several annual reports from council committees.

The Newham Council meeting on 28 April 2025 focused on the theme of Our Young People, Our Future. Councillors discussed and approved a report outlining the council's commitment to young people, debated motions related to youth services and safety, and heard updates from partner organisations and cabinet members. The council also approved the submission of a new local plan.

The council also agreed to provide Councillor Mohammed Gani with a dispensation for non-attendance at meetings until 20 October 2025 due to ill health.
