Refurbishment Works at Abbey Lane Children's Centre

The Cabinet of Newham Council approved the Council's response to the Regulator of Social Housing's inspection report and grading on 3rd December 2024. The Cabinet noted the report and grading, the Council's response, and the draft programme of improvement works. They also agreed to appointments for specific roles related to housing services.
The Corporate Director of Inclusive Economy & Housing, in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Adult Health and Social Care, decided on 9th January 2026 to award an Early Works Package to Buxton Building Contractor Ltd for Lady Helen Seymour House refurbishment works. This decision was made to accelerate the refurbishment programme for a Rough Sleepers Assessment Centre.
The Corporate Director of Children and Young People's Services, in consultation with the Corporate Director of Inclusive Economy and Housing, decided on 20th May 2026 to approve a procurement process for refurbishment works at Abbey Lane Children's Centre. This decision allows for tenders to be invited for the works, which are required to designate the building as a Family Hub.
The Corporate Director of Adults & Health accepted £100,000 of funding from the Greater London Authority on 19th August 2025. This funding will support additional community projects in Beckton & Royal Docks and Custom House & Canning Town as part of the People Powered Places 2025-27 programme.
