The Strategic Development Committee approved planning permission and listed building consent for redevelopment of the former London Chest Hospital on Bonner Road, and approved the Council's observations on a Reserved Matters Application for Plot 1 of the Bishopsgate Goodsyard development. The committee deferred a decision on a planning application for a residential development at 4 & 5 Harbour Exchange Square pending a site visit. Councillor Iqbal Hossain was appointed as Vice-Chair of the committee for the municipal year 2024/25.

Strategic Development Committee - Tuesday, 14th May, 2024 6.30 p.m.

The Strategic Development Committee of Tower Hamlets Council met on Tuesday 14 May 2024 to discuss several planning applications and other planning matters. Key decisions included the unanimous approval of a new pedestrian and cycle bridge across the River Lea at Ailsa Wharf, and the granting of planning permission for a new residential and community centre development at Caxton Hall, despite some concerns raised by councillors and residents. The committee also agreed on a procedure for handling future planning applications related to the Bishopsgate Goods Yard and noted proposals for an interim delegation scheme for planning functions from the London Legacy Development Corporation.

Strategic Development Committee - Wednesday, 3rd April, 2024 5.30 p.m.

The Strategic Development Committee of Tower Hamlets Council met on Wednesday, 3 April 2024, to discuss a major planning application for the former News International site and a pre-application for Orchard Wharf. The committee unanimously granted planning permission for the redevelopment of the former News International site, which will deliver 547 new homes, including a significant proportion of affordable housing. The committee also received a pre-application presentation for Orchard Wharf, a mixed-use development proposed for a safeguarded wharf site.
