The Newham Council cabinet met on 17 June 2025, and among the items discussed were the progress on the Local Government Association (LGA) action plan, updates to the social housing improvement plan, and the establishment of a community opportunities framework. The cabinet agreed to note the progress made on the LGA action plan, the social housing improvement plan, and to establish a framework for community opportunities, with amendments to ensure greater oversight and accountability. Councillor Blossom Young was also appointed to the West Ham ecclesiastical trust charitable trust.

Chief Officer Appointments Sub-Committee - Monday 16th June 2025 1.00 p.m.

The Chief Officer Appointments Sub-Committee convened to interview candidates for the position of Corporate Director Environment and Sustainable Transport, but ultimately decided not to make an appointment. The committee interviewed two candidates but concluded that neither was suitable for the role.

Chief Officer Appointment Committee - Thursday 12th June 2025 12.30 p.m.

The Chief Officer Appointments Committee met to establish sub-committees responsible for appointments to several chief officer posts. These sub-committees are responsible for making appointments to the posts of Corporate Director, Environment & Sustainable Transport, Corporate Director, Adults & Health, Director of Housing Needs, and Director of Housing Services. The meeting was scheduled to discuss the size and membership of these sub-committees.

Call In, Cabinet - Thursday 29th May 2025 9.15 a.m., PROVISIONAL

The Newham Council Cabinet met to discuss the Overview and Scrutiny Committee's (OSC) call-in regarding proposed changes to employee terms and conditions at Juniper Ventures, a council-owned company. The Cabinet addressed the OSC's recommendations, agreeing with some and partially or fully rejecting others. They ultimately voted to approve the Executive Response to the Juniper Ventures Call In.

Annual Meeting, Council - Thursday 22nd May 2025 7.00 p.m.

The annual council meeting for the London Borough of Newham convened on 22 May 2025, featuring the election of Councillor Dr Rohit Kumar Dasgupta as the new Chair of Council and Councillor Imam Haque as the Vice-Chair. Councillors also discussed the calendar of meetings for the upcoming municipal year, political proportionality, and several annual reports from council committees.
