About

The Local Development Committee is responsible for deciding on local planning applications submitted to Newham Council. Operating in a quasi-judicial manner, it must adhere to principles of natural justice and the Human Rights Act with strict impartiality, guided by the Local Plan. While officers handle most routine applications, objectors and applicants facing refusal or objection can request to speak at committee meetings. Those wishing to speak must provide written notice and can present their case for up to five minutes, followed by potential questions from the committee. Members of the public are advised not to lobby committee members to maintain the integrity of the decision-making process.
