Decision

Committee agreed to:-

a)       request the following information be provided:-

  1. Clarify the data discrepancy on Page 24 (96.9% vs 97% average).
  2. Provide further explanation on benchmarking and learning from other authorities in relation to moderation;
  3. Whilst noting the levels of attainment in relation to literacy and numeracy have remained static for a number of years; this still leaves a significant amount of pupils who are not meeting the requirements (Literacy (27.3%) and Numeracy (19.4%)), it would be useful to know what is being done to support these pupils to meet the required levels;
  4. Provide details on the work being done to improve the SIMD/poverty?related attainment gap in Garioch;
  5. Provide list of LLA buildings in unsatisfactory condition, what grade they are and improvement plans for these premises.  It would be useful to have this information routinely provided within the report;

b)       provide the following comments to the Service:-

  1. Recommendation 1.2.2 is not needed as this is an already agreed position;
  2. There appears to be an increased focus on the quality framework, but there needs to be equal focus on the lower levels as intervention at early years has a positive impact on pupils moving forward; and
  3. Request that Officers inform Councillors of any ways they can assist with promoting apprenticeships and volunteering opportunities.
