Purpose
To update Cabinet on the progress of the Cloud Strategy, as previously approved by the Cabinet in 2024 and seek continued approval for the revised Cloud Migration Programme, including the procurement of a cloud migration partner and Cloud Hosting Partner.
To note the changes to scope and cost profile since the original Cloud Strategy approval, and the associated risk mitigation.
To highlight the critical risks of maintaining a single, aging on-premise data centre versus the benefits of cloud migration in terms of flexibility, security, and availability.
Decision
RESOLVED to:
1) Approve the use of capital funds £0.95m from the approved £3.95m, to procure a cloud implementation partner to build our cloud infrastructure and migrate all remaining Council applications and onsite Council data from the physical datacentre at County Hall into the Microsoft Azure Cloud;
2) Approve progressing from the completed Design stage, delivered under the existing procurement (£0.095m), to a conclusive implementation and migration stage with an implementation partner;
3) Approve the Procurement of our existing Hosting Partner for the cloud hosting services (Microsoft Azure Cloud); and
4) Authorise the Executive Director – Corporate Services and Transformation, in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Business Services and Cabinet Member for Council Efficiency (DOGE), to award the contract(s).
