About
The Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education (SACRE) advises the local authority on matters related to religious worship and education in community and foundation schools. Established under the Education Act 1996, SACRE is not a formal council committee and regulates its own proceedings.
Its responsibilities include advising on teaching methods, materials, and teacher training for religious education according to the Agreed Syllabus. SACRE also handles applications from schools regarding the requirement for Christian collective worship and convenes conferences to review the Agreed Syllabus. It publishes an annual report on its functions.
