The Sustainable Development Select Committee examines environmental protection issues in Lewisham, including the use of natural resources, air quality, energy saving, and pollution reduction. It reviews and challenges council service manager reports and studies topics of local importance.
The committee makes recommendations to the Mayor and Cabinet on economic development, business support, employment, training, council planning policies (excluding planning and building control), transport, local area regeneration projects, waste management, street cleaning, street and market trading (excluding licensing), and flood prevention and management. The committee selects its focus areas annually and holds public meetings.
