The Planning Committee (Smaller Applications) is responsible for deciding on specific types of planning applications within Southwark.
This includes applications for new housing developments creating 10-49 units, commercial spaces between 1,000-3,500m², or mixed-use developments of similar size. It also handles applications that significantly deviate from local development plans, are controversial with five or more objections, or relate to the council's own developments. The committee also considers applications for metropolitan open land, expenditure over £100,000 from legal agreements, and tree preservation orders with sustained objections. Decisions can be made by officers in straightforward cases or when objections can be resolved by conditions.
